Who we are
Ana Emdin is the founder and the director of New State Pictures. Ana's focus is on discovering and developing projects that push creative boundaries and break established narratives. She has secured options for highly-desired titles that went on the Booker Prize longlist and won Yale's Windham-Campbell Prize.
Before founding New State, Ana served as a producer at Tibor Jones, a literary and screen development company, where she led adaptations across a major YA catalogue and a 52-book estate by international bestseller Wilbur Smith. Her production credits include the indie feature The Dunns of Brixton, the award-winning documentary series Untold Stories, and a portfolio of short films.
Ana began her career on set, working her way up through the ranks of commercial and branded content production. Originally from Latvia and now based in the UK, she brings a global perspective to storytelling and a sharp producing sensibility to every project she leads.
Dārta Vijgrieze is the producer at New State Pictures where she is responsible for production logistics and management. She is based between Riga, Latvia and London, UK. In Latvia, Darta is also a producer at the leading Latvian film prodcution company Mistrus Media Film. Her short films and music videos have been showcased at prestigious festivals, including the BAFTA-recognised and Oscar®-qualifying Aesthetica, PÖFF, LA Shorts, and HollyShorts.
She is currently producing projects by renowed directors, such as “Emptiness” by Tribeca-winning Viestur Kairish. Darta attends all the major European film markets annually (Cannes, Berlinale, BFI London, IDFA, CPH:DOX) and, beyond day-to-day producing, specialises in attaching sales agents, planning international distribution strategies, and driving projects towards strong market positioning.
Beyond independent cinema, Darta also produces for global brands such as McLaren and has production managed major commercial campaigns, including Samsung’s flagship Galaxy campaign. This dual expertise gives her a unique strategic perspective — balancing creative excellence with strong production management and business acumen.
