Convoy to Samarkand by Guzel Yakhina

In the aftermath of the Bolshevik Revolution, two unlikely heroes embark on a mission to rescue 500 orphans from the famine-stricken lands of Russia to Samarkand, a land of bread and safety. Facing the harrowing threats of hunger, disease, and death across a four-thousand-mile journey, their quest becomes a legendary odyssey of survival, heroism, and unlikely camaraderie.

The film tells the true story of one of the twentieth century’s most devastating famines, which claimed millions of lives, with children among the most vulnerable. Yet Convoy is also about people who overcame ideology, division, and the weight of their own past mistakes to choose one simple act: to save children’s lives. And in turn, the children saved the souls of the adults who carried them to safety.
